American RedCross Liberty Disaster Fund
After the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, the L.A. County Fair waived normaladmission on Sept. 14 and instead accepted donations for the Red Cross Liberty Disaster Fund. The Fair collected $236,000 that day from gate receipts, and when combined with other donations, a total of $251,000 was raised. A check was presented to the American Red Cross at the conclusion of the 2001 Fair. The L.A. County Fair was awarded the American Red Cross Golden Bear award recognizing individuals or organizations thathave contributed to the Red Cross in extraordinary ways.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross had a presence at the 2007 L.A. County Fair. On Wednesday, Sept. 12 active military, reserves, police, fire and paramedics, along with one guest, attended the Fair for $1, which will be donated to the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross will also receive $1 from each regular adult admission to the Fair on Sept. 12. The American Red Cross is the trusted agency that provides emergency communications, access to financial assistance and counseling to military personnel and their families as well as social services to veterans. Fairplex is proud to support American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) to military families in our community and across the country. Fairplex employees annually participate in the American Red Cross Blood Drive. The Bloodmobile is located at Fairplex for the drive, and in recent years, the American Red Cross has utilized Fairplex offices to set up shop for collecting blood donations.

Boy Scouts of America
Fairplex has long been a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America San Gabriel Valley Council with participation and service by individuals within the organization.

Christmas in April
Beginning in 1993, Fairplex employees volunteered their time, skills andresources to renovate a Pomona home as part of the nationwide Christmas in April program. On top of volunteer efforts, the Fair Association contributed materials, equipment, supplies and paid staff for additional labor during company hours.

Inter-City Volunteers
The Fair Association is a major supporter of Inter-City Volunteers, a Pomona-based organization that provides food, clothing and gifts to homeless and needy families in the Inland Valley. Fairplex employees annually participate to help provide food to feed more than 5,000 people at the holidays. All year, the group feeds the needy several times a week. Dairy products remaining from the Fair’s annual judging are donated to the group to benefit needy families. Fairplex facilities manager Bill Shacklett and his wife, Deanna, founded and lead the organization. The Fair also donates more than 60 gallons of ice cream to Inter-City Volunteers, who distribute the ice cream and toppings to needy recipients in thePomona area. Inter-City Volunteers has its own kids club, which attends the Fair on its own special day.

L.A. County Fair Premiere Party
The 2007 L.A. County Fair Premiere Party held on Sept. 6, benefited the Fairplex Education Foundation. Under the Tuscan Sun is the theme of the Flower & Garden Pavilion and guests will be delighted with the spectacular presentation. PFF Bank & Trust is the 2007 honoree for its longtime commitment to youth, education, service to the community and to the Association.

Speakers Bureau
Fairplex employees make up the Fairplex speakers bureau and speak to approximately 100 civic groups and organizations during the year. There is no charge to groups seeking a speaker to talk about Fairplex, the L.A. County Fair, the Sheraton Suites Fairplex hotel, the Economic Impact study conducted in 2002, or any related topics.

United Way
Each year, Fairplex employees contribute cash to the annual United Way campaign. For 2007, the annual contribution was $7,046.

Wine & Cars Under the Stars
The inaugural event was held in June against the backdrop of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. Attendees to this event are the first to learn the winners of the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits competition held in May. Featuring dynamite cars, celebrities, award-winning wines and spirits, entertainment, gourmet food and more, guests were also able to make a contribution to the education programs of the Foundations at Fairplex. An original painting by Millard Sheets, part of the family’s private collection for more than 50 years, was the highlight of the live auction. Presented by Ralphs.
