Barretts Equine Limited, the most prestigious sales facility in the west, will kick off the New Year and the West Coast auction circuit with its January Mixed Sale Tuesday, Jan. 22, the first of six auctions on its 2013 calendar.
Barretts’ sales in 2012 were strong, surpassing average and median prices over 2011. All indicators point to a good year in 2013, with a January sales catalog to support expectations.
Topping the 267 horses in the catalog and 22 supplements is Midnight Interlude, one of the best 3 year olds in the country and the winner of the $1 million Santa Anita Derby with starts in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Among the broodmares offered is Hip 157, Dancing Jo, a young Johannesburg mare in foal to the great Unusual Heat.
As an added incentive, the purchaser of the highest priced broodmare/broodmare prospect at the January Mixed Sale will win a complimentary 2013, no-guarantee breeding to Coil, who recently retired to stud at Magaili Farms in Santa Ynez. An outstanding racehorse, Coil won 7 of his 14 starts, including Grade 1 wins and earned more than $1.1 million in his career.
Barretts opened and conducted its inaugural thoroughbred sale in March 1990. The prestigious sales attract national and international buyers. Graduates of Barretts’ auctions account for more than one out of every six starts at all thoroughbred racetracks in California.
The sale begins at 11 a.m. Parking is at Gate 12 on White Avenue. Visit barretts.com to view the complete sales catalog.
