WINNER ANNOUNCED IN PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST
HALLOWEEN SPIRIT. . . Elizabeth Henry, 5, and her sister, Katherine, 12, of Montrose won first place in the “Out of Your Gourd” Family Pumpkin Decorating Contest, held Oct. 2 at the L.A. County Fair. Participants were given 15 minutes to decorate a pumpkin out of edible materials and toothpicks. Along with bragging rights, the Henry sisters took home a rosette and four movie tickets.

GLENDORA HIGH SCHOOL TAKES TOP PRIZE IN L.A. COUNTY FAIR BAND COMPETITION
The Glendora High School Regiment took first place honors for the third year in a row in the L.A. County Fair High School Marching Band competition Sept. 30. The band received $5,000 and will lead the Fair float in the 74th annual Hollywood Christmas Parade Nov. 27.

SECOND PLACE WINNER ANNOUNCED IN HOG CALLING CONTEST
BRINGING HOME THE BACON. . .Mary Shoults of Ontario won second place in the Farmer John hog calling contest, held Sept. 30 at the L.A Fair. Contests were given one minute to try and call as many pigs into the ring. Along with bragging rights Shoults took home a rosette, an engraved bowl and a gift certificate for a Farmer John ham.

FIRST PLACE WINNER ANNOUNCED IN HOG CALLING CONTEST
HERE PIGGY PIGGY PIGGY. . . Emily Bailey, 8, of Lake Arrowhead won first place in the Farmer John hog calling contest, held Sept. 30 at the L.A Fair. Contests were given one minute to try and call as many pigs into the ring. Out of 35 contestants Bailey won the contest by calling all three pigs into the ring in 15 seconds. Along with bragging rights she took home a rosette, an engraved bowl and a gift certificate for a Farmer John ham.

WINNER ANNOUNCED IN DONUT EATING CONTEST - ADULT DIVISION
BIG GULP – Jason Castillo of Ontario took first place in the adult category of the Texas donut-eating competition Sept. 29 at the L.A. County Fair. He beat out 20 other contestants to take the blue ribbon.

WINNER ANNOUNCED IN DONUT EATING CONTEST - YOUTH DIVISION
TEXAS SIZED – Ally Castillo, 9, of Ontario took first place in the 9 years of age and under category of the Texas donut-eating contest Sept. 29 at the L.A. County Fair. She beat out 16 other contestants to take the blue ribbon.

FAIRPLEX ENDS 2005 SEASON WITH A BANG; HANDLE AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH
Ultimate Summer seemed to sum up the situation best as she rolled to a commanding nine-length win in Monday’s eleventh race. Approximately half an hour after the 3-year-old filly sprinted across the wire, the sun went down and Fairplex Park ended its 2005 racing season, and oh what a summer it was.

WINNER ANNOUNCED IN FLEICHMANNS YEAST DYNAMIC DUO BAKING CONTEST
TWO GOOD—Lisa Carter and her daughter Amy, 14, of Lakewood won first place Sept. 25 in the Fleichmann’s Yeast “Dynamic Duo” Baking Contest at the L.A. County Fair. The two received $150 and will automatically be entered in the national competition.

WINNER ANNOUNCED IN SECOND POKER TOURNAMENT AT FAIRPLEX PARK
Luck was in the cards for Don McCain of Cypress who won the grand prize in the Texas Hold ’em Poker Tourney held Sept. 22 at Fairplex Park. This was the second of two tournaments held during the L.A. County Fair, with all proceeds from both tournaments benefiting the Fairplex Education Foundation. The Foundation offers educational opportunities to surrounding communities during the Fair and year-round.
