Every city is special in some way, whether it’s the equestrians of San Dimas or the bustling college community of Claremont. It is the unique aspects of cities that the L.A. County Fair will salute during Community Days.  Eighteen local cities will be honored every weekday of the Fair, Sept. 10-26.

  BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES MAKE APPEARANCE AT L.A. COUNTY FAIR

The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, representatives of Anheuser-Busch for more than 70 years, are scheduled to make several appearances showcasing their tremendous strength, precision, grace and beauty during the L.A. County Fair, scheduled for Sept 10-26. The massive animals will appear during the races for Fairguests at the Fairplex Park Budweiser Grandstand.

The winners of the Contemporary Fine Art Competition at the Millard Sheets Gallery have been announced. The competition, open to the public, returned to the 2004 L.A. County Fair after a nearly 50-year hiatus.

Winners of the Hometown Buffet Chocolate Chip cookie contest at the L.A. County Fair were announced Sept. 11. Hometown Buffet Inc. sponsored the event.

WINNERS DISPLAY SOME OF THE BEST MEXICAN RECIPES NORTH OF THE BORDER

Beautiful presentations of salsas, burritos and enchiladas lined tables at the L.A. County Fair as judges meticulously evaluated the tastes of each dish and visual appearance. A Tapestry of Tradition, presented by the Gas Company, housed the Salsa and Mexican Classics competition Saturday, Sept. 11.  Judges tasted salsas in three categories: contemporary fruit salsa, traditional and fiery hot.  Various food categories were also judged.

A TAPESTRY OF TRADITION GETS NEW HOME, OFFERS SAME GREAT APPEAL  

When the L.A. County Fair opens Sept. 10, A Tapestry of Tradition, the popular creative home arts exhibit, will present participants and visitors with more opportunities and a larger location to partake in all the wonderful contests and demonstrations the department has been known for the past 82 years.

MUSIC LEGEND WILLIE NELSON TO PLAY L.A. COUNTY FAIR  

Texas native Willie Nelson grew up in a world permeated with music: the gospel songs of his grandparents, the blues and Mexican corridas that eased the labor of the cotton fields, the country and western swing hits filling the airwaves from Nashville and Fort Worth and the inner music that filled his head. Melodies are easy, he says of songwriting. If he needs one, he just plucks one out of the air. The air, he says, is full of music.
