FAIRPLEX KOA/RV PARK RECEIVES PRESIDENTS AWARD
Kampgrounds of America Inc. recently honored the Fairplex KOA/RV Park and presented superintendent Chuck Thompson with the 2003 President’s Award for its outstanding facility and operation. Fairplex also received a Gold Rating from KOA in 2002 for outstanding quality and management.

GRAND NATIONAL ROADSTER SHOW MOVES TO POMONA

ASIAN AMERICAN EXPO 2004 USHERS IN YEAR OF THE MONKEY
Recognized as one of the largest Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations in the West, the Asian American Expo 2004 now in its 23rd anniversary is slated for January 17th (Saturday) and January 18th (Sunday) at Fairplex in Pomona. Every year more than 100,000 Asian consumers are expected to attend this spectacular trade show.

L.A. COUNTY FAIR RAISES THE BAR AND HOLDS THE LINE
The 2003 L.A. County Fair at Fairplex assumed a new place of prominence in Amusement Business’s year-end ratings of the top 50 fairs and festivals in North America, moving from fifth place to fourth, following only the State Fair of Texas, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Minnesota State Fair. The rankings are determined by attendance.

FAIRPLEX PARK HORSEMEN REAP REWARDS
A very successful 2003 L.A. County Fair horse racing meet translated into additional monies for the horsemen that participated at the recently concluded event. Live horse racing is a big attraction at the L.A. County Fair, a mainstay since its inception in 1922, with a monumental footnote since the L.A. County Fair was the first in Southern California to offer pari-mutuel wagering when it was legalized in 1933.

The Foundations at Fairplex held a Celebration Reception on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to thank the friends and associates of Fairplex’s three education foundations for their participation and support. The group was feted in the Millard Sheets Gallery.

WINNERS OF L.A. COUNTY FAIRS PARENT-CHILD TABLESCAPING CONTEST ANNOUNCED
The race was on as the second Parent-Child Tablescaping Challenge at the 2003 L.A. County Fair took place on Sept. 26 at the 2003 L.A. County Fair. Teams comprised of a parent and a child between the ages of 8 and 15 years old were given a themed box of supplies and twenty minutes to create the best tablescaping. This was the second year the Fair offered this contest.

JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION SALES JUMP AT THE 81ST L.A. COUNTY FAIR
Changing the annual Junior Livestock Auction to a Saturday instead of a weekday proved to be a successful move during the recent sale of prizewinning animals at the L.A. County Fair, which ran Sept. 12-28. Fewer animals than last year went through the sale held on Saturday, Sept. 27, but total revenue increased by $21,000 from the previous year. A total of $124,743 was brought in for 25 beef cattle, 43 market lambs, 70 market hogs, 20 market goats, 17 rabbit fryer pens and eight market veal. There were no poultry sold or exhibited this year due to the Newcastle epidemic. In 2002 market turkeys and poultry boilers were on the auction block.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2003 L.A. COUNTY FAIR RAFFLE
This year’s L.A. County Fair showed its “Simpler. Funner. Kinder.” side on closing day, Sept. 28, when it announced winners of the Fair raffle. This is the second year the Fair has offered a raffle for its guests. A total of $47,000 in prizes was given away, and the proceeds benefited the Fairplex Education Foundation and Pomona Rotary.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR A TAPESTRY OF TRADITIONS 1970S TYPE ONE DISH COOKING CONTEST
The L.A. County Fair’s 25th edition of our Award Winning Cookbook inspired this new contest, held Sept. 28. Folks brought in familiar smells of the past from casseroles to deserts to win a Rosette and a Longaberger Basket for first place Best of Show. Awards were offered for first, second and third place winners. Top winners from all four categories will have their recipes entered in the recipe book available for purchase each year at the Fair in A Tapestry of Tradition.
