The Fairplex Education Foundation has announced a gift of $10,000 from Southern California Edison Company in support of the L.A. County Fair’s FairKids Discovery Club field trip program. The field trip program brings 100,000 schoolchildren to the Fair every year, providing free admission to the Fair for A Day Full of Learning Cleverly Disguised as Fun® for FairKids and their chaperones. "Southern California Edison supports the Yellow Bus Program because we believe a trip to the L.A. County Fair provides many youngsters with an opportunity to learn so much in a large classroom concept while having fun doing it,” said Southern California Edison Public Affairs Regional Manager Jennetta Harris. “Education is a key ingredient to developing a strong workforce so we stand behind this program in helping them achieve their goals.” During the FairKids Discovery Club field trips, schoolchildren visit educational exhibits such as America’s Kids & Education Expo. This year’s theme, When I Grow Up, provides a hands-on kids’ career expo. FairView Farms gives young learners an up-front view of livestock and agriculture and the important role both play in California’s heritage. Some fortunate FairKids even experience the miracle of birth at FairView Farms’ maternity barns. A visit to Fairplex Garden Railroad – the oldest and largest of its kind – features a miniature California history lesson as trains wend their way through California missions, the Central Valley farmlands and the dusty boomtowns of the Old West. Each segment of the carefully structured field trips is grade-level appropriate and complies with California’s Education Curriculum Content Standards. “Edison’s $10,000 leadership gift provides a huge boost to our FairKids Discovery Club field trip fundraising program,” said Fairplex Director of Development Susan Dowler. “Not only does this gift provide an opportunity for thousands more children to participate in our unique brand of hands-on learning, it also inspires other corporations and individuals who are passionate about education to make gifts that benefit children in their respective communities. For the gift and the inspiration, we are truly grateful to Southern California Edison.” Find More Information Online:
