It’s no surprise that chocolate chip cookies are the most beloved cookies world-wide, so judges at the L.A. County Fair’s chocolate chip cookie contest on Sept. 15 weren’t shocked to see so many entries. And there’s nothing like a great chocolate chip cookie, except maybe a brownie. That’s why brownies were included in the Blue Ribbon Chocolate Chip and Brownie contest. Nineteen contestants entered the event, which required original, unpublished recipes. Judges based their decisions on appearance, taste, texture, overall appeal and clarity of the recipe. In chocolate chip cookies, Alberta Dunbar of San Diego took first place with her oaty chocolate three chipper cookies. She received a blue ribbon and a $200 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. In second place was Marina Castle of North Hollywood with her butterscotch chocolate chip cookies. She received a ribbon and a $50 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. Taking third place was Guadalupe Casillas of Pacoima with her white chocolate chip cookies. She received a ribbon and a $25 Williams-Sonoma gift card. In the brownie category, Patricia Lapezio of San Diego received first place with her Hidden Treasure Brownie. She received a blue ribbon and a $200 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. Kathleen Davies-Morris of Chino took second place with her chocolate picanté brownies, made with Mexican chocolate and chile. She received a ribbon and a $50 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. In third place was Catherine Hagerty-Clemens of Fullerton and her coconut cream cheese brownies. She received a ribbon and a $25 gift card to Williams-Sonoma. For more information on the L.A.
