FAIRPLEX STORY: F J'S PACE LEADS THROUGHOUT TO CAPTURE APRISA AT FAIRPLEX

POMONA, Calif., Sept. 18--Favored F J's Pace took advantage of the scratch of
speedster Rocky Bar to lead throughout in the $45,500 Aprisa Handicap at
Fairplex Park Wednesday, winning by two lengths under jockey Scott Stevens.
It was the 10th career victory from 42 starts for the 7-year-old Florida-bred
gelding, who covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:09.67 under 118
pounds. He paid $3.40 to win and earned $27,500.
"That was an easy race for him," Stevens said. "He broke running. When I got
to the (jockeys') room and saw that Rocky Bar was scratched--I thought I
could win the race before that--well, that made it all the better when I saw
he was out of there."
F J's Pace, a son of Gallant Prospector trained by Doug O'Neill for owner
Ren-Mar Thoroughbreds, took command at once, was stalked by Mistakenly
Special, but set fractions of :22.14, :45.41 and 57.68 before winning under
steady handling. Mistakenly Special was second by three lengths over Hyder.
Rapidough completed the order of finish. Rocky Bar and La Bandera were
Hostility, a winner of two of her four starts, is the 6-5 morning line
favorite in Thursday's 41st running of the $50,000-guaranteed Bustles and
Bows Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs. The field in post
position order: Local Law, Octavio Vergara, 114, 20-1; Hostility, Tyler Baze,
122, 6-5; Amanda Louise, Goncalino Almeida, 114, 6-1; Zam Zam, Iggy Puglisi,
114, 5-2; Margaret's Fancy, Martin Pedroza, 114, 4-1; and My Honey Bunny,
Chance Rollins, 122, 8-1.
