PRESTIGIOUS OLIVE OIL COMPETITION GETS NEW NAME

The Los Angeles County Fair Association, host of the L.A. County Fair’s Olive Oils of the World Competition, has announced the event will now be known as the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. The new identity will enhance public and commercial awareness of the competition and its winning entries, resulting in increased consumer interest in olive oil. The 8th annual event will run May 15 – 17 at Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.

The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition will also reach the 1.4 million Fairguests expected at the 2007 L.A. County Fair, where winning olive oils will be featured at the Fair’s newly designated Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Marketplace.

The olive oil competition adds an exciting dimension to the Association’s world-renowned wine competition, the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, bringing together the finest international and domestic oils and in impressive panel of professionals to judge them. The competition has grown from 28 entries in its inaugural year in 2000 to 386 entries in 2006.

The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition will be judged in two categories – domestic and international – and will be separated according to regional designations and fruitiness intensity levels. The competition also will include flavored olive oils.

A new Web site designated specifically for the olive oil competition will be running soon at www.laoliveoilcomp.com.
