PONY UP YOUR ARTIST TALENTS AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR TROJAN HORSE COMPETITON
They were the original guerilla artists, taking materials at hand to create a unique work of art that changed the lives of their audience forever. They were the Greeks. Their creation – the Trojan horse. Their dramatic effect - nothing less than the complete upheaval of everything the Trojans knew. Can you do as well? See how avant garde you are at the L.A. County Fair’s Trojan horse competition where teams of artists will be challenged to take materials at hand and create their own 3-D masterpiece. Artists are invited to submit entries postmarked by Aug. 8. Finalists will be notified by Aug. 15. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three entries. The Trojan Horse Tournament is a public art opportunity held in conjunction with the Fair’s exhibit HOOFPRINTS: The Horse in Art, Legend and Action at the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts. The tournament will take place live in front of the Fair-going audience from Sept. 5 – 28. In an unusual and interesting twist, teams must construct their Trojan horse from recyclable material they unearth from a large stockpile of material otherwise known as the Fairplex “junkyard.” With the Fair’s commitment to sustainability, the tournament offers these recyclable resources an opportunity to see the light of the thriving Fair once again.
