Artist Tony Sheets Directs L.A. County Fair Exhibition
HOOFPRINTS: The Horse in Art, Legend and Action, presented by Farmers Insurance, takes Fairguests on an artistic journey around the world, exploring the earliest known instance of man’s relationship with the horse to contemporary examples of sculpture, paintings and artifacts that document the horse’s place in art and history. Explore horses in mythology, at work and as faithful companions of medieval knights, Cavalrymen and cowboys. During this year’s interactive exhibition, Fairguests will have an opportunity to talk with artists demonstrating their work, visit a workshop where students can create their own masterpiece, listen to a storyteller spin tales of the horse, view special multimedia features and more. Each day of the Fair, the HOOFPRINTS Redwood Corral located behind the Millard Sheets Center will feature a different horse breed, demonstrations and special displays. This will be an opportunity to get a close look at the stars of this year’s exhibition. Also during the Fair three artist teams will compete to create a three-dimensional, modern-day interpretation of the Trojan Horse. The live art tournament will take place during the Fair and the Trojan horses will be constructed entirely from the Fair´s materials treasure trove, which has been accumulating since the early 1920s! Stop by the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts to witness this creative process as it unfolds. HOOFPRINTS: The Horse in Art, Legend and Action and the Trojan Horse Tournament run concurrently with the L.A. County Fair and are free with Fair admission. The L.A. County Fair is Sept. 5 – 28, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred racing is Sept. 5 – 22, closed Tuesdays. For more information, visit the Web site at www.lacountyfair.com.
