FAIRPLEX NITELEAD FOR 9-8-08 FROM ANTONUCCI- NITELEAD

Pomona, Calif. (Sept. 8) - Longshots Soda Pop Kid ($48.40) and Looking At You ($19.60) helped force the $2 pick and $1 win pick nine into overtime at Fairplex Park on Monday.

When racing resumes on Wednesday, there will be a pick six carryover pool of $36,918, while the carryover pool for win pick nine has gradually swelled to $16,380.
* News flash: Jockey Martin Pedroza only won two races on Monday, giving him 19 for the first four days of the Pomona session.

Pedroza, who won a record seven races on opening day Friday and added another seven on Sunday, sandwiched three winners into the equation on Saturday.

Agapito Delgadillo and Clinton Potts are tied for second with five victories each, while Alonso Quinonez and apprentice Pedro Arambula have three apiece.
* Australian jockey Kayla Straw, who invades Southern California each season about this time of the year because racing "down under" basically shuts down during their winter, won her first race ever at Fairplex on Monday.

Rallying from sixth at the top of Pomona's short stretch, Straw guided Soda Pop Kid to half-length victory over Sandita for a stunning $48.40 upset.
* Fairplex has announced a post time change for its first race this Friday (Sept. 12).

Originally scheduled to begin its 13-race program at noon, first post has been moved forward to 1 p.m. because only 10 races will be offered. The feature race that afternoon will be the $65,000 Pio Pico Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs for California bred fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up.
* Jockey Joy Scott has been suspended three days (Sept. 14, 15 and 17) by the Fairplex Park stewards for her ride aboard Caribean Boy in last Saturday's eighth race.

Scott was cited for failing to make the proper effort to main a straight course in the stretch which resulted in Caribean Boy being disqualified from second and placed third.
