For Immediate Release
LA COUNTY FAIR BBQ WINNERS ANNOUNCED

There was a whole lot of cookin’ going on Sept. 27 at the L.A. County Fair as the region’s best amateur barbecue experts were grillin’, seasonin’ and simply smokin’ their best fish, pork, beef and poultry dishes at the Fair’s annual BBQ Contest. Contestants, and their family and friends, partied in between the grilling, sharing tips and war stories all in the good name of barbecue!
Each contestant had to bring their own equipment and had from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to set up and cook. Judges based their decisions on quality of entrée (flavor, tenderness, juiciness); answers given by contestants on preparation of entrée, side dishes and general knowledge of equipment; use of side dishes cooked on the grill; and overall table theme. First through third place winners were named in all four classes (fish, pork, beef, poultry). Winners received a blue, red or white rosette, a trophy and cash prize. The Best of Show winner took home a trophy and $300.
Pork – First place, and the flavorful wood award, went to Lynessa Allen of Alta Loma with her stuffed pork loin. In second place was Troy Krautkramer of San Dimas with pork ribs.
Poultry – In first place, and taking the Grand Prize, was Brad Stauffer of Claremont with Cornish game hen. Second place went to Alfred Alvarado of Pomona with his beer-can chicken. Robin Littlefield of South Pasadena came in third.
Fish – Stuffed salmon took first place, made by John Lybrand of Chino Hills. Jason Ward of San Bernardino took second place with tiger prawn tacos. In third place was Marissa Sitz of Covina with swordfish steak with pesto.
Beef – John Sitz of Covina took first place with smothered filet mignon. In second was Danielle Cushman of San Marino with teriyaki sliders. Coming in third was John Hyun of South Pasadena with Tri Tip.
The Fair concluded on Sunday, Sept. 28. For more information on the L.A. County Fair, visit the Web site at www.lacountyfair.com.
