FAIRPLEX STORY: ZAM ZAM WINS BUSTLES AND BOWS STAKES AT FAIRPLEX PARK
For Immediate Release
POMONA, Calif., Sept. 19--Zam Zam returned a quick dividend after trainer
John Dolan claimed her for $40,000 two races back, winning the $48,000
Bustles and Bows Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by a nose in a three-horse
photo finish at Fairplex Park on Thursday.
Ridden by Iggy Puglisi, the daughter of Wild Gold overcame trouble on the
first turn in the 6 1/2 furlong race, stalked pace setter My Honey Bunny to
the top of the stretch, and prevailed in a hard drive between horses.
My Honey Bunny, ridden by Chance Rollins, finished second on the rail, a
half-length beind Margaret's Fancy, Martin Pedroza up. Hostility, the 6-5
favorite, finished fourth after bobbling at the start and being bumped,
steadied and forced wide on the eventful first turn. Local Law finished fifth
and last. Amanda Louise was scratched.
"She fell into the race real nice but had a little bit of trouble on the
first turn," Puglisi said. "I believe it was the one horse (Local Law) that
didn't make the turn too good and really knocked her back end away from her
pretty good. I turned around to make sure she felt all right and she gathered
herself nice and started to go after them on the backside. She really relaxed
and did everything right."
Zam Zam earned $27,500 for her second victory from five career starts and
covered the distance on a fast track in 1:18.42 under 115 pounds.
