They are out there. We know them. They are our neighbors, our family, our co-worker. They’re the ones who selflessly help others; give of their time, talents and treasures without notice; cook meals for those in need; volunteer at a school reading books to youngsters or supervising them at recess; offer their expertise with nary a nod to recompense. These are the champions that make our communities better places to live, and the L.A. County Fair wants to recognize them.
The Fair is accepting nominations for its annual Community Hero celebration. Community Heroes are honored during the Fair (except Labor Day) as part of Community Days celebrations. This year, the Fair is recognizing young adult, adult and senior heroes. Do you know someone who fits the bill? Print a nomination form from the Fair Web site, lacountyfair.com. Find it under general information/community days. Fill it out and return it by mail to the Community & Government Relations Department, Fairplex, P.O. Box 2250, Pomona, 91769-2250. Or fax it to (909) 865-3602. The deadline for nominations is May 30.
New this year, opening day of the L.A. County Fair will be Saturday, Sept. 5 and run through Oct. 4. For questions on the Community Hero program, call Brandy Hatcher at (909) 865-4648 or e-mail Hatcher@fairplex.com.
