The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition celebrates its 11th anniversary, keeping a growing tradition of recognizing the finest domestic and international extra virgin olive oils. The competition has become one of the most prestigious and well-known olive oil competitions in the nation. The annual event runs May 18-20 at Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition has grown from a 28-entry beginning to nearly 500 judged last year. While the competition is not open to the public, it benefits the 1.4 million Fairguests expected at the 2010 L.A. County Fair, where winning olive oils will be featured at the Fair’s Wine & Spirits Marketplace, presented by Ralphs. The olive oil competition adds an exciting dimension to the world-renowned Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, including an impressive panel of judges. The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition is judged in two categories, domestic and international, and separated according to regional designations and fruitiness intensity levels. The competition also includes flavored olive oils. The winners will be awarded June 19 at Wine & Cars Under the Stars at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum at Fairplex, in Pomona, CA. A list of winners will be available online. Visit the Web site at laoliveoilcom.com.
