The line goes, “If I knew you were coming I’d have baked a cake.” But WOW! Ultimate Cake Off from TLC takes that to the next level.
Three master cake makers from around the country will create a very special themed cake to celebrate the season-opening high-flying Roller Derby action, slated Saturday, Feb. 20 at Fairplex. One creation will be deemed the best of the best and the victorious chef along with the edible masterpiece will be revealed during the evening’s activities, which will air in an episode of the series. This is likely not your mom’s cake—for openers the decorated cake must be at least 5 feet tall. One of the recent creations seen on the nationally televised show topped 8 feet and featured animation.
Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to taste the incredible, edible, original creation in celebration of the New Year’s inaugural highly contested competition pitting the Los Angeles Firebirds against the Brooklyn Red Devils. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the teams take to the track at 8 p.m.
Who knows what happens when the cake meets the skates? Tickets are available on site at Fairplex and at www.firebirds-rollerderby.com. Roller Derby action returns to Fairplex Feb. 27, sans the cake.
Ultimate Cake Off premieres its second season on TLC starting Monday, February 1, 2010 at 10 p.m. The episode featuring Fairplex will air later in the season. More information will be available at tlc.com/ultimatecakeoff.
