It’s a mini reunion at Del Mar’s seventh race Saturday, July 24, with seven of the 11 starters 2010 graduates of the prestigious auctions held at Barretts Equine Ltd. The maiden race is for 2-year-olds and Barretts is well represented.
The field includes Red Sharp Humor, Barretts May sale, $72,000; Clubhouse Ride, Barretts Winter Mixed Sale, $22,000; Rock So Hard, Barretts March sale, $100,000; Palio Prince, Barretts March sale, $115,000; The Phenom, Barretts March sale, $40,000; Purgestein, Barretts March sale, $40,000; and Just Imagine, Barretts May sale, $120,000.
Barretts held its first auction in 1990 and to date statistics show that Barretts grads account for nearly one out of every five starts at all Thoroughbred racetracks in California. The field at the 2010 Kentucky Derby included Make Music for Me, a graduate of the prestigious Barretts Equine Limited’s 2009 March sale of selected 2-year-old Thoroughbreds in training, the most recent Derby to feature a Barretts product. Awesome Gem, a top graduate of 2010, won the recent Hollywood Gold Cup, another feather in Barretts impressive hat.
