POMONA, CA, Sept. 16, 2010-Catch Lorraine, a 28-1 longshot ridden by Alex Bisono, captured Thursday's $33,000 feature race at Fairplex Park by three-quarters of a length and paid $58.40 to win.
Light of a Star was second under Matt Garcia, while Our Road Scholar, Omar Berrio up, was third in the field of nine California-bred fillies and mares. Time for 6 furlongs under 117 pounds was 1:17.29.
Catch Lorraine, an invader from Santa Rosa trained by Phil Oviedo, won for the fourth time from nine career starts and earned $19,800 for owners Gust or Picardo.
Friday's feature race, the $50,000 Phil D. Shepherd Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs, drew seven entrants headed by Hi Ho Yodeler, who won the Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar on Sept. 1. Trained by Mike Harrington, the California-bred daughter of Swiss Yodeler will be ridden by Martin Pedroza. First post time is 1 p.m.
