For Immediate Release
TRUE WAY OF GRACE TAKES BARRETTS DEBUTANTE AT FAIRPLEX

POMONA, CA, SEPT. 18, 2010-True Way of Grace, who lost all chance of victory in a maiden race at Del Mar on Aug. 29 when she steadied hard at the 4  -furlong marker but still finished third, made amends Saturday by winning the $91,872 Barretts Debutante at Fairplex Park. With Paul Atkinson in the saddle, True Way of Grace ran down 9-10 favorite Dearly Concerned under Martin Pedroza to win by a half-length.

The race was restricted to 2-year-old fillies that were offered for sale in the 2008 October or 2009 January, March or May Barretts-in-training sale.

Trained by Alexis Barba for owner Peter O. Johnson, True Way of Grace covered 6   furlongs under 119 pounds in 1:18.92. She earned $51,040 and paid $14.20, $5 and $3.80 across the board.

Fourth into the stretch, True Way of Grace rallied under right-handed urging near the eighth pole and collared Dearly Concerned late. Lucy Wiggles was third and Cactus Jane fourth in the field of eight.

"We had a perfect trip," Atkinson said. "It makes it easy when you have something to work with. When you have something that can run, then it makes the rider's part easy. Alexis did a hell of a job with this filly . . . I could feel her picking it up at the quarter pole. Turning for home, I knew we were going to be right there. Thankfully, I was able to run the leader down."

Sunday's feature is the $115,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes at 6   furlongs. Patrick Valenzuela comes in to ride 5-2 morning line favorite Clubhouse Ride for trainer Craig Lewis in the race for 2-year-olds offered for sale in the 2008 October or 2009 January, March or May Barretts-in-training sale.
