The 3rd annual student-talent Avant-garde Fashion Show, presented by DeVry University, showcases the finest in high school student-created fashions at a runway show 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Fairplex. The past two shows have been a tremendous success, drawing more than 1,000 guests. Student designers are from the fabric, design and merchandising classes of the Career and Technical Education Center at Fairplex and several local high schools, including Ayala High in Chino Hills; Bonita High in La Verne; Diamond Rancho, Ganesha, Village Academy, The School of Arts and Enterprise and the Adult and Career Education program, all in Pomona; and Nogales High in La Puente. Students created, sewed and will model all clothing. More than 175 students are participating. Doors open at 6 p.m.; preshow entertainment from the Polynesian Dance Team will begin at 6:40 p.m. The show is in Building 4; parking is at Gate 17. CTEC is also hosting a Career Fair and Health Expo, presented by DeVry University, Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is open to students and parents and will feature more than 100 representatives from businesses, industries and technical schools offering information on resume writing, business etiquette, job-search techniques and online applications. The Health Expo is open to all and features blood pressure, glucose and diabetes screening and medication consultation. The event is co-hosted by Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona Unified School District and Summit College.
