“The L.A. County Fair offers plenty of fun and entertainment, but we’re also founded on educating the community and showing how we can give back to make a difference in the world around us, especially through organizations like City of Hope,” said Leslie Galerne-Smith, Fairplex communications and public relations manager. “Nearly 1.4 million people attended the L.A. County Fair last year. Raising awareness on health-related issues such as cancer is a critical role we play in the betterment of our community.”
On Friday, Sept. 16, City of Hope’s bloodmobile will be on-site to accept blood donations, a critical need for cancer patients in treatment and recovery. Also on Sept. 16, L.A. County Fair will host Be The Match, the national bone marrow donor registry that helps patients who are battling cancers like leukemia and lymphoma find potentially lifesaving donors. The Center of Community Alliance for Research and Education (CCARE) will be available Friday, Sept. 9, to educate fair patrons about cancer prevention.
“We’re grateful for the support from the L.A. County Fair for the lifesaving work of our experts so that together we can help save more lives,” said Jill Kendall, program director, National Marrow Donor Program. “This is an opportunity to expand awareness and build support throughout the Greater Los Angeles community for advanced science and new therapies, thus giving greater hope to patients and their families.”
The L.A. County Fair will be open Saturday, Sept. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 2, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays except Labor Day. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit www.cityofhope.org/lacountyfair.
