FAIRPLEX STORY: BOB'S LADY RALLIES TO WIN CTBA MARIAN STAKES AT FAIRPLEX PARK
For Immediate Release
POMONA, Calif., Sept. 23--Oakcrest Stable's Bob's Lady rallied from
next-to-last three-wide in the stretch and wore down 14-1 shot Excessive Angi
to win the 41st running of the $50,000 CTBA Marian Stakes by a half-length at
Fairplex Park on Monday.
Ridden by Iggy Puglisi for trainer John Sadler, Bob's Lady covered 1 1/16
miles on a fast track in 1:45.54 under 114 pounds and paid $15 to win.
Excessive Angi, ridden by Danny Sorenson, held gamely for second, seven
lengths in front of Surprisingly, who set the pace into the stretch. Shalini,
the 5-2 favorite, finished fourth, three lengths behind Surprisingly.
Consummateconsumer, Badgett's Mango, Ladylore and Bigboystoy completed the
order of finish in the field of 3-year-old California-bred fillies. Barely
Daylight was scratched.
"It was exactly the way we planned it out," Puglisi said. "John said she was
super nice and very easy to ride, that she'd go inside or outside and rate
nicely."
Sadler indicated he would run Bob's Lady back on California Cup at Oak Tree
at Santa Anita on Nov. 2, but did not specify a race. The daughter of
Pirate's Bounty earned $27,500 for her third victory from 11 outings.
Ayanna, front-running winner of the Christmas Futurity at Turf Paradise last
Dec. 22, but a loser of her last three starts against tougher competition, is
the even-money morning line favorite in Tuesday's 34th edition of the $50,000
Bangles and Beads Stakes for fillies and mares, 3 and up, at 6 1/2 furlongs.
The field in post position order: Green Eyed Lady, Goncalino Almeida, 110,
3-1; Ayanna, Garrett Gomez, 110, 1-1; Posadas, Martin Pedroza, 122, 5-2;
Absolutism, Daniel Vergara, 110, 15-1; and Sister Patricia, Danny Sorenson,
114, 8-1.
