The Millard Sheets Gallery at Fairplex in Pomona will extend its sculpture exhibit beyond the close of the L.A. County Fair, providing guests who did not get a chance to visit during the Fair the opportunity to take in beautifully crafted artwork from some of the world’s finest sculptors.
“Carved, Chiseled, Cast: Figurative Sculpture” will run from Oct. 4 through 25. The gallery will be open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Saturday, Oct. 12, when it will remain open until 9 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation and parking is free at Gate 1 on McKinley Avenue.
The show features selected works from local sculptors, both past and present, who have national credits as well as historic connections to the Fair. This is the first time in at least 17 years the gallery has presented a sculpture-themed exhibit.
Curator Christy Johnson said she received unbelievably positive response during the Fair, which was held Sept. 13-29.
“Many people said this was the best show we’ve had,” said Johnson. “I just loved this show.”
The extended run will offer guests who could not attend the Fair a chance to see the exhibit and school children who visit a more relaxed atmosphere in which to view the artwork and participate in hands-on projects.
“During the Fair, people who walk through here have so many other attractions calling their name,” said Johnson. “With the extended show, they’ll have time to read about the artist, to
absorb the meat of this exhibit.”
