Barretts Equine Limited will present its 13th annual March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Old Thoroughbreds in Training on Tuesday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at the Barretts’ complex. The catalogue contains 208 horses for the sale, an increase from the 167 horses that were available in 2002. A training preview at Fairplex Park was held on Monday, Feb. 24, and a second preview is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, at 10 a.m. The preview is open to the public through Gate 12 on White Avenue.
The Barretts’ March Sale in 2002 boasted a sales topper at $1.9 million who set a record for a juvenile filly sold at public auction. The daughter of Stormy Atlantic, now named Atlantic Ocean has gone on to become a multiple stakes winner.
The 2000 March sale included Barretts’ first national champion, Squirtle Squirt, crowned Champion Sprinter at the prestigious 2002 Eclipse Awards. The colt sold for a bargain price of $25,000.
Barretts’President and General Manager Gerald McMahon said, “We’re looking forward to another solid sale, although we are a bit concerned about the current global environment.” Past Barretts' sales have attracted a large contingent of international buyers.
