Barretts Equine Complex, the premiere sales facility on the west coast will present its May Sale of 2-Year-Old Thoroughbreds in Training on Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 13. A total of 414 two-year-old thoroughbreds are listed in the catalogue for the facility’s 14th annual spring sale. The prestigious complex, owned and operated by the Los Angeles County Fair Association, is located at Fairplex in Pomona.
The catalogue includes a large selection of horses, including several by sires of a number of the 2003 Kentucky Derby competitors, and three horses by the sire of Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide.
Gerald McMahon, Barretts general manager said of the event, “This is what we call a bread and butter sale with a wide variety of quality horses that fit nicely into a broad assortment of pocketbooks.”
Combined sales at Barretts in 2002 were in excess of $27 million.
The sale begins at 1 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday with approximately 200 horses auctioned each day. A sales preview is being conducted at Fairplex Park on May 8-9. Parking for the Barretts preview and sale is through Gate 12 on White Avenue.
