CROCHET, KNIT CONTESTS COMING TO 2003 L.A. COUNTY FAIR
 

Entry forms are being accepted until Aug. 1 for the crochet speed, knit speed and knitted vest challenge contests that will be held in the A Tapestry of Tradition exhibit at the L.A. County Fair.
 
The crochet speed contest will be held at noon on Sept. 16. Entry fee is $3. The winners will have crocheted the greatest number of correct, completed scallops or patterns at the end of a 15-minute period. All contestants must use official contest patterns established by the L.A. County Fair.
 
Categories are seniors (60 years and older) and juniors (59 and younger).
 
The Phebie’s NeedleArts Knit Speed contest will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16. Entry fee is $3. Winners will be those contestants who have knitted the greatest number of patterns at the end of a 15-minute period. There are senior and junior categories. Yarn will be donated by Phebie’s NeedleArts and Plymouth Yarn Company.
 
Phebie’s NeedleArts Knitted Vest Challenge will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 16. Entry fee is $3. The first 50 entries will be accepted. The contest is open to adults 18 years and older. Requirements include: the body of the vest must be knitted and can be finished any way desired; yarn used should be approximately worsted weight; any stitch can be used; vest must be wearable.
