Judging for the 2003 L.A. County Fair New Photography Exhibition will take place on Wednesday, July 16 in the Millard Sheets Gallery. The winning entries will be displayed during the Fair, Sept. 12 through 28, at Fairplex in Pomona. The competition gets underway at 10 a.m. Entries have increased to approximately 3,200 in comparison to the 2,450 submitted for the competition in 2002. There are several categories for both amateurs and professionals to enter photos, including one photo titled “Interiors,” which complements the theme of the Millard Sheets Gallery; “Life Studies,” which includes all living creatures; “Scenic,” of landscapes and natural areas; “Close Ups,” defined as compositions that capture an intimate and exclusive viewpoint; and “Fine Art,” interpretive, inventive or conceptual work with special consideration to the principles of fine art design. Hand in hand with the celebration of flight in Fairplex 7A will be a category to commemorate flight including planes, birds, butterflies, kites, gliders – anything that flies or is airborne. The impressive jurors for the exhibition are Paul Bielenberg, Steve Thomas, Sheila Pinkel and Jack Butler.
