This year’s L.A. County Fair showed its “Simpler. Funner. Kinder.” side on closing day, Sept. 28, when it announced winners of the Fair raffle. This is the second year the Fair has offered a raffle for its guests. A total of $47,000 in prizes was given away, and the proceeds benefited the Fairplex Education Foundation and Pomona Rotary.
Patricia Haist, of Burbank, was the happy recipient of $25,000, and Jaston Escamilla, of San Bernardino, was the winner of a Cal Spa Jacuzzi worth $5,000.
Haist won by a margin. After buying a book of five tickets, she received one free ticket, and it was that last free ticket that won.
“I’m excited,” Haist said when she received her check. “I’m still thinking of what I’m going to do with the money. It’s very hard to win, and I’m surprised.”
The Fair also awarded a multitude of additional prizes throughout the Fair’s operation Sept. 12-28, including $1,000, barbecue islands, Jacuzzis, money grabs offering up to $500 and a billiard table. In all, there were a total of 40 winners.
