The L.A. County Fair’s 25th edition of our Award Winning Cookbook inspired this new contest, held Sept. 28. Folks brought in familiar smells of the past from casseroles to deserts to win a Rosette and a Longaberger Basket for first place Best of Show. Awards were offered for first, second and third place winners. Top winners from all four categories will have their recipes entered in the recipe book available for purchase each year at the Fair in A Tapestry of Tradition. In the casserole division, Kathryn Chambliss of San Dimas took first place with her Savory Steak N’Dumplings Casserole. Jason Akers of Altadena came in first place for his Feelin’ Groovy Mac & Cheesey dish in the Macaroni and Cheese category. Alberta Dunbar of San Diego took first place in the One Pot Meal category with her Old Fashioned Beef Stew with Potato Dumplings dish. And of course, what would dinner be without dessert? Patricia Lapiezo of La Mesa won Best of Show with her Old Fashioned Carrot Cake. All other first place winners took home ribbons for their homemade creations.
