Spike Meury, salesman for Wine Warehouse and distributor for Hahn Estates Winery, says he’s never seen anything like it. The 2004 L.A. County Fair’s Wines of the World competition’s Best Wine of the Competition, Hahn Estates, Syrah, Central Coast, 2002, also named Best Red Wine, has sold more than 100 cases of wine in less than a week. Buyers are calling back and increasing their initial orders. Word of the winning wine came at the completion of the prestigious international competition held at Fairplex on Friday, May 14, and the response to the award winner has been overwhelming. The Syrah, Central Coast, 2002 was chosen from more than 4,000 international entries by 90 renowned international judges. The public will have its first chance to taste the award-winning Syrah along with other winning wines at Summer Solstice on June 24. The highly touted social event, also a fund-raiser for the educational programs at the Millard Sheets Gallery, will present an evening of food, art, entertainment and, of course, the wine tasting. The public can also taste the winning wines during the 2004 L.A. County Fair Sept. 10-26 daily in The Vineyard. Complete results of the L.A. County Fair Wines of the World competition are available at www.fairplex.com.
