DEADLINES VARY FOR CONTESTS, EXHIBITS AND MARKET CLASSES OFFERED AT JUNIOR POULTRY DIVISION AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
This year’s Junior Poultry Division at the L.A. County Fair, Sept. 13-29 at Fairplex in Pomona, will include various contests, exhibits and market classes.The following divisions are open to participants 6-18 years of age, and the entry fees and deadlines vary.
The Egg Production Contest will run from Sept. 13-29, and the deadline for entries is Aug. 12.Entry fee is $5 per pen.Entry forms must include the signature of the participant’s guardian.Each pen consists of five birds and a minimum total of 50 marketable eggs must be laid before a premium will be paid for that pen.Premiums and trophies will be awarded.
The Poultry Showmanship contest will take place on Sept. 21 at There is no entry fee to participate in this contest.Participants will be divided into three classes: senior (ages 13-18), junior (ages 6-12) and novice (ages 6-18, first time contestants only).Trophies will be awarded for various honors.
The O.H. Kruse Grain and Milling Company Rooster Crowing and Hen Cackling Contest will be held in Barn 9A (south end of Livestock area) on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.There is no entry fee for this contest.Entries will be accepted until the day of the contest.The first 25 entries will be accepted in each class.Awards will be given per class, along with rosettes for all other participants. Those interested in entering this contest should write or call the Kountry Kritters office for a special entry form.
Junior Poultry Division
Exhibit entries for the California Game Breeders’ Association will close on Aug. 12.Entries may close sooner if capacity is reached.No entry fee is required.Display birds must be received by Sept. 12, from noon-7 p.m.All birds must be caged by Premiums and trophies will be awarded in various categories.
The deadline for Market Classes entries is Sept. 3 for junior-market animals.All poultry animals must be weighed in on Sept. 20 and the exhibit will be on display Sept. 20-24.
Poultry Skillathon will be held on Sept. 21 at There is no entry fee to participate.
