White Avenue recently underwent renovations that included new fencing, landscaping
and general cleanup that was so impressive that even Hollywood took notice.
White Avenue, from McKinley Avenue to Arrow Highway, will be the site of filming
for the movie “Herbie Fully Loaded.” Locations at Fairplex will also
be used before moving to the White Avenue location. The original “Love Bug,”
starring the little Volkswagen was made in 1968. There have been several sequels
and a television series based on the movie.
In order to film the required footage White Avenue will be closed to north and
southbound traffic from Saturday, Aug. 28 through Monday, Aug. 30. The closure
will be in effect from sunup to sundown during the three-day period. Alternate
routes should be used during that time.
The Fairplex badge center located through Gate 7 on White Avenue will not be open
during the filming. They will reopen on Tuesday, Aug. 31. The EDD trailer will
open on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Gate 7 on White Avenue to start accepting employment
applications in readiness for the 2004 L.A. County Fair, Sept. 10-26. The trailer
will be closed over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6.
Fairplex has attracted a number of Hollywood movie scouts for location shooting
including Seabiscuit, Me, Myself and Irene, The Insiders, That Thing You Do, and
The Grifters. Portions of Elizabethtown, a new film directed by Cameron Crowe,
will be filmed at Fairplex in late August. Commercials and television shows have
also gravitated to the multi-dimensional 543-acre facility.
