If you’re 60 years of age or older, there’s something special about Tuesdays at the 2002 L.A. County Fair. Seniors will have their own days on Sept. 17 and 24. Both days have been designated as Senior Days at the Fair and will offer special admission prices, information, entertainment and contests just for seniors. The Fair runs Sept. 13-29.
Admission for Senior Tuesdays is specially priced. On Sept. 17 and 24, seniors can get into the Fair for $4, half price of the regular senior weekday admission of $8. Seniors also have the opportunity to join the Senior “Funner” Club when they bring a group of 20 or more people to Senior Tuesdays. For $12, each member will receive Fair admission, lunch at Duggan’s All-American Barbeque, an L.A. County Fair Commemorative Pin and free bus parking. Tickets for the Senior “Funner” Club must be purchased ahead of time through the Advanced Sales department. Additional information may be obtained by calling (909) 865-4050.
A Senior Health Fair, presented by the L.A. County Fair, Inter Valley Health Plan and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, is scheduled to take place on both Sept. 17 and 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m in Festival Plaza. A variety of free health services will be offered. Seniors can take advantage of free screenings in hearing, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, massage therapy, hip-to-waist ratio, glaucoma, spinal assessment, balance screenings, respiratory and bone sonometry. Health education information will be available from Hillcrest Homes, Visiting Nurses Association, Community Senior Services, Home Instead Senior Care and the American Red Cross.
Senior Milk Drinking Contests will take place at noon on Sept. 17 and Sept. 24 in Livestock Ring 1. Seniors will compete against other seniors to see who can drink the most milk.
Senior bingo will be held on both days from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Duggan’s All American Barbecue.
The Senior Ballroom Dance Contest will also be offered for seniors age 55 or older on Sept. 17 at 2:30 p.m. on the Fairplex 4 Community Stage. Seniors may compete in any or all of the follow categories: Waltz, Fox Trot, Polka, Tango and Samba. Winners
