SPAM KID CHEF OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED AT L.A. COUNTY FAIR

The winners of the L.A. County Fair’s SPAM Kid Chef of the Year recipe competition were announced Sept. 24.

The recipes were judged on kid appeal, taste, appearance and originality of recipe. Taking first place was Sarah Rosendahl, 11, of San Bernardino for her Chocolate Crinkle cookies made with one can of SPAM. She received $150, a SPAM chef’s hat and apron. Her recipe will be entered into the national competition. Hormel Foods Corporation’s home economists will judge all final recipes and announce the winner in January, 2005.

In second place was Eric Kruggel, 8, of Etiwanda. He made Party Pizza Spam cupcakes. He received $50, a chef’s hat and an apron.

Taking third place was Davita Gruber, 11, of Whittier for her Spam-Flower, an upside down large potpie. She received $25, a chef’s hat and an apron.

There was a tie for fourth place. Katie Carter, 7, of Lakewood made Spamaroni and cheese. Megan Gamble, 7, of West Covina made Spam soup.
