There’s no doubt that L.A. County Fair mascot Thummer the pig is a star the month of September during the annual Fair, but this year he also gets the opportunity to shine in December. Thummer will be the Grand Marshal of the 53rd annual Pomona Christmas Parade, themed “Christmas Through a Child’s Eyes.” The Pomona Jaycees and city of Pomona sponsor the festivities. The parade will make its traditional holiday appearance on Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 10 a.m. Thummer joins the ranks of former luminaries such as welterweight boxing champ and Pomona resident Sugar Shane Mosley to serve as the parade’s grand marshal. Thummer said, “I’m honored and will do my best to represent Fairplex, my home in FairView Farms and my community of Pomona and its residents. I plan to set a great example for other mascots.” The celebration will wend its way approximately one mile from its starting point at Holt and Caswell concluding at The Village on Holt and Indian Hill boulevards. The parade participants will consist of marching bands, community, civic, youth and equestrian groups. Trophies will be awarded to parade participants in a number of categories. Pomona Jaycee members and parade co-chairpersons are Jennifer Clark and Ray Adams.
