FAIRPLEX SALUTES A LONGTIME ASSOCIATION MEMBER

E. Burdette Boileau, a longtime member of the Los Angeles County Fair Association is remembered.

Boileau, 92, died on Feb. 24, following a lengthy illness.

Boileau first joined the Fair Association in 1960. He was named and served as a director from 1960 through 1982 when he was designated a director emeritus.

He served on a number of committees during his tenure with the association, including media information, membership, executive and personnel, and made valuable contributions in the Fair’s educational development.

Boileau was inducted into the Los Angeles County Fair Association’s Hall of Fame in 2001, a tribute to the many years of commitment, service and contributions he gave to the association. The inscribed plaque bearing his name, aptly says, “A gracious gentleman. He set the standard for integrity.”

Boileau, a former partner with the Claremont law firm, Nichols, Stead, Boileau and Lamb, had a long and illustrious career of service within the community. He received accolades from a number of organizations for his dedication and years of service, including as Man of the Year from both the YMCA and LeRoy Haynes Center.

He served as president of both the YMCA and Pomona Rotary Club and on the boards of Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation, United Way Regional Board, Boy Scouts of America and Pomona Chamber of Commerce. In 1999, Pomona Rotary honored him for 50 years of perfect attendance and active affiliation in the organization, a testimony to his strong commitment to community service.

He and his wife, Helen, were longtime residents of Pomona. Helen Boileau’s father, Clyde Houston, was one of the Fair’s founders in 1921.

James Kostoff, retired president of Nichols, Stead, Boileau and Kostoff and former chairman of the board of the Los Angeles County Fair Association for 19 years said about Boileau, “An honorable, gracious gentlemen with a keen sense of ethics and integrity beyond reproach; we all learned from Burdette.”

He is survived by his wife Helen, and a sister Birdean Smith. Services are Monday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Methodist Church in Pomona. Todd Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
