For Immediate Release
FARMER JOHN HOG CALLING CONTEST AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR

Tune up your oink, perfect your suey call or just let out a snort and a squeal.  This is the place where people will let out high-pitched calls and rumbling grunts, get dressed up as hogs and roll in the dirt.

The Farmer John Hog Calling contest will take place at the 2002 L.A. County Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in Livestock Ring 2.  The contest will feature participants of all ages as they attempt to attract designated hogs into the ring.  Participants will be judged on hog reaction, audience reaction, technique and appropriate costume.

Last year Edward Cortez, mayor of Pomona, won the contest and was able to attract three of the four hogs into the ring.  It was Cortez’s second time winning the contest.  This year contest promises to be interesting, as more people attempt to bring home the bacon and win the grand prize, which is a silver trophy, a rosette and a whole ham.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this unique contest and watch people go hog wild. The Fair runs Sept. 13-29. For general Fair information call (909) 623-3111 or visit the Web site www.lacountyfair.com.
