Fairplex will host the Southern California Indian Center Inc.’s 37th Annual Pow Wow July 29-31. The event is the largest pow wow and American Indian arts and crafts show in California.
A pow wow is a symbol of the American Indian Heritage. It reenacts certain spiritual and symbolic aspects of American Indian humanity: every song, every dance, every gesture, every detail of the beautiful attire illustrates a part of their heritage. It will be a show for the whole family. There will also be arts and crafts and American Indian food. Admission for the event is adults $7, seniors 55 and over and teens 13-17 $4, children 6-12 $3 and children 5 and younger are free.
On Saturday, July 30, SCIC Inc. will recognize Indian veterans. On July 30 and 31, the Intertribal Children’s Circle will have storytellers and hands-on crafts for all children. There will be many contests, from drum contests to specialty dance contests, with more than $20,000 in prize money.
