Artists will take to the streets of the L.A. County Fair on Saturday, Sept. 24, and Sunday, Sept. 25, as part of the new Bella Strada Italian Street Painting Festival.
The Bella Strada Festival will exhibit chalk art paintings from 40 artists, including 10 featured artists who will create a 20-foot by 15-foot 3D piece of artwork. Among the featured artists is Julie Kirk, a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, who has been painting for 12 years. In addition to local displays, her work has been shown in Turkey and Italy. What started as a hobby for Kirk, evolved into a passionate outlet for the street painter as she ties classic baroque techniques with contemporary designs, in turn helping her to create her own techniques.
Artists use a special chalk that sticks to asphalt/concrete in creating their work. Scenes will be created in FairView Farms, in front of the Millard Sheets Gallery and in front of The Vineyard Marketplace located next to the Flower & Garden Pavilion.
Children can also participate in the event in the children’s art area located at the rear entrance to Fairplex 7A, behind the America’s Kids exhibit. Participants can draw a picture using chalk on a special square. The squares will be added to a scene created by one of the Festival artists, creating a beautiful and fun collage.
An awards ceremony for the artist competition will be held Sunday afternoon.
The Fair runs Sept.9 – Oct. 2, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred horse racing returns Sept. 9 – 26, closed on Tuesdays only. For more information regarding the Fair visit www.lacountyfair.com or call (909) 623-3111. /b.js>
