Luck was in the cards for Don McCain of Cypress who won the grand prize in the Texas Hold ’em Poker Tourney held Sept. 22 at Fairplex Park. This was the second of two tournaments held during the L.A. County Fair, with all proceeds from both tournaments benefiting the Fairplex Education Foundation. The Foundation offers educational opportunities to surrounding communities during the Fair and year-round.
“I was very lucky,” said McCain, who frequently plays in poker tournaments for fun.
Along with bragging rights, McCain received airfare and accommodations for three days and two nights for two adults at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas and a 42” HD plasma, flat-screen television with receiver.
Out of 260 players who entered the tournament 26 competed in the finals. All players received free admission to the Fair, a $10 cash voucher for horse racing on the tournament day, a free buffet lunch, a signature sports bag and two decks of cards with the Fairplex logo. All finalists received an Apple iPod mini.
