Tapestry, the home arts department of the L.A. County Fair, has announced the winners in a number of its contests held during the Fair, which runs through Oct. 2, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
In the Crochet Speed Contest held Sept. 21, senior division (60 years and older), first place went to Donna Shearer of Lancaster. Taking second was Dorothy Farrell of Ontario and receiving a third place ribbon was Shirlee Lewis of Anaheim.
In the junior division (under 60 years of age), first place went to Beverly Oats of West Covina. In second was Kathryn Martin of Fontana and in third was Dee Van Dam of Ontario. Taking fourth place was Karen Frazer of Mission Hills.
The Knit Speed Contest was also held Sept. 21. In the senior division, first place went to Dolores Trimboli of Murrieta, second to Dorothy Farrell of Ontario and third to Nell Vander Zwan of Ontario. Fourth place went to Jeanne Hanna of Whittier. Junior division winners were Chris Brown of Riverside in first, Karen Frazer of Mission Hills in second, Yolande Hollis of Moreno Valley in third and in fourth, Gaby Mendez of Riverside.
In the Knitted Vest Challenge, Valerie Dembrowski of Altadena took first place with second going to Chris Brown of Riverside.
The Christmas Tree Decorating Contest was judged in August; however the trees are all on display in Tapestry. In the handmade division, Jeanne Sahara of Hacienda Heights took first place; second went to Lisa Stern of Northridge; third to Gail Willis of Northridge; and fourth to Leslie Olson of Claremont. In the purchased division, first went to Heather Norris; second to Craig Pedersen of San Gabriel; third to Jamey Windt of Upland; and fourth to Rosalie Garcia of Pico Rivera.
Tablescaping – themed table decorating – was held Sept. 8 and 21. First place in the first show went to Eda Bierman of Playa Del Rey; second place to Bonnie Overman of Hacienda Heights; and third to Chris Schoenfelder of Rancho Cucamonga.
In the second show, Jane Wallace of Monterey Park took first place; Marie Schoenfelder of Rancho Cucamonga took second; and Stefanie Brown of Claremont came in third.
