The winners from the L.A. County Fair’s Ghirardelli Chocolate Contest have been announced. The contest was held Sept. 15.
All entries had to use at least one Ghirardelli baking product and no more than 10 other ingredients. Entries were judged on taste, originality and creativity, appearance and ease of preparation. The contest received a total of 19 entries.
First prize was awarded to Pat Lapiezo of La Mesa for her Mocha-Toffee Fudge Banana Cream Pie. Pictured with Lapiezo are (left-right) judges April Rosendahl, Pat Kark, Lapiezo, Lauria Watts and Bob Gourley. Second place went to Jessica Lamb of Chino Hills for her Ghirardellicious Brownies. In third was Eileen Storm of Norwalk for her Chocolate Towers.
First place was awarded $150, second place was awarded $50 and third place was awarded $25. Each winner also received a Ghirardelli Gift Basket and a rosette.
