Winemakers know that consumers are visual. They make choices according to visual perception – if it looks good, if it looks interesting, if it is recognizable, if it is pretty. All of this is taken into account when designing the label that will grace wine bottles. Wine label design is a big business. Artists have dedicated their careers to designing labels, making them look elegant, bold, fun, all the while abiding by strict government guidelines. The L.A. County Fair’s Wines of the World competition recognizes the importance of packaging and will bestow awards on the best designs during its wine and olive oil competitions May 17-19 at Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.
Wines and olive oils submitted to the competition are automatically entered in the packaging design contest. Wines not entered in the wine competition can be submitted with a $10 per bottle entry fee for consideration in label judging.
Again this year, the winners of the design awards will be displayed at COPIA, a prestigious, interactive center located in Napa, Calif., where guests can investigate the fascinating cultural intersection of wine, food and the arts.
