RECORD BREAKING BARRETTS MAY SALE

A Red Bullet colt named Unbridled Slew broke his second Barretts record when he was sold Tuesday at the equine complex’s May sale for $2.5 million. It was the highest selling price ever recorded at a Barretts May sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Prior to Tuesday’s sale, Unbridled Slew set another Barretts record by running an eighth of a mile in only 9 3/5 seconds.  It was the fastest time recorded at any Barretts juvenile sale and the fastest ever for a colt auctioned by the facility.

Unbridled Slew was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley Stable and had been expected to generate excitement at the May sale.

“We thought it would be real good, and it was,” said Barretts President Jerry McMahon.  “The range of buyers was terrific.  Regional, out of state … our bread and butter is the California market, and they were here in great numbers and with a lot of enthusiasm.”

The Red Bullet colt is out of the 8-year-old unraced Avenue of Flags mare Sookloozy and is half-brother to winner Lycense to Win.  Unbridled Slew is also related  to stakes winners Regal Air, Heather and Rose, and Ashland Rose.

The $2.5 million winning bid is the second highest this year for a 2-year-old in training.  The Green Monkey, a Foresty-Magical Masquerade Colt, was sold for a world-record $16 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida juvenile select auction.
