Fairplex Park’s 2006 racing meet just got better.
Upon approval by the California Horse Racing Board granting Fairplex Park’s racing license for the upcoming season, the L.A. County Fair’s 68th season will reflect a
5 percent increase in purses for the meeting.
The windfall is a result of a record-breaking 2005 meet, which realized an
all-time handle of $113,624,214, shattering the previous high of $109,249,303. Perfect temperatures set the mood for the 16-day meet, full fields complemented each race and the Pick Six generated its all-time biggest pool.
Fairplex Park presents a stakes race each day including the signature Ralph M. Hinds Pomona Invitational Handicap and a pair of contests, the Juvenile and Debutante, for two-year-olds purchased at Barretts, now with accompanying purses of $125,000 guaranteed and $130,000 estimated, respectively.
Fair officials have every reason to anticipate a great meeting; one that surpasses 2005 would be nice. Fairplex Park’s 2006 season begins Friday, Sept. 8 and concludes on Monday, Sept. 25. Tuesdays are dark. Fair dates are Sept. 8-Oct. 1, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. rc=http://w
