FAIRPLEX PICK SIX ROLLOVER NEARS $1 MILLION

POMONA - The weather heated up at Fairplex Park on Monday afternoon and so did the $2 pick six.

For the third consecutive day no one was able to tab all the winners in racing's equine lottery. Seven tickets correctly selected five winners and each was worth a whopping $40,158.60.

The Pomona track is closed today, but when racing resumes on Wednesday, the pick six carryover pool will be $988,445.

Going into Monday's program, Fairplex offered a two-day pick six carryover pool of $332,520.

Because there aren't many race tracks across the country open on Monday, Fairplex suddenly became the center of the racing world. Money poured into the exotic pool from just about everywhere, and when the betting was concluded, $1,201,636 was wagered on the pick six.

With the $332,520 carryover added on, the total pool was a record $1,534,156, eclipsing the old Fairplex mark of $910,150, set on Sept. 14, 2005.
That record will be shattered on Wednesday. With $988,445 up for grabs, another $2 million to $3 million likely will be bet on the exotic wager.

Many players were knocked out of a possible life changing payday almost immediately when first-time starter Absolutly A Tizzy Vegas ($34.80) in the second leg.

The results were a bit more formful after that as Bad Ad ($8.20), Just A Twitt ($6.40) and Mimi Guarneri ($7) won.

In the final race Cot Ty ($21.80) won by a desperate nose over 49-1 longshot Zildjian.

Headed by Spenditallbaby, the 5-2 favorite, a field of 10 2-year-old fillies tangle in the $65,000 Black Swan Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on Wednesday.

Spenditallbaby's biggest advantage is that she is only one of two horses that have successfully negotiated a distance of ground. Stormin Jo Jo is the other. And Spenditallbaby, a daughter of the hot California sire Unusual Heat, has done it twice, both on turf.

Also entered, are Hello Bolly, Kimmy Potter, Miss Melissa, Bartok's Bling, Swiss Rose, Nushka Babee, Dar C. Alltheway and Qui's Determined.

When racing resumes at Fairplex on Wednesday, only six days of sport remain on the calendar.
