If Americans continue to drink wine at the levels they have the past few years, the United States will overtake France in 2009 as the leading consumer of wine in the world, according to the International Organization of Vine and Wine.
The consumption of table wine in the U.S. exceeded 250 million cases in 2006, with the adult per capita consumption estimated at 2.88 gallons, according to the Wine Market Council’s 2006 Consumer Tracking Study. Generation Xers are making wine “trendy,” while American’s 60 years and older are enjoying more wine for its health benefits. Whatever the reason, glasses are being raised in record numbers.
With wine consumption growing, it is a perfect time to increase marketing efforts and capitalize on this trend. What better way than by displaying a medal won at the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition?
