The Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition draws entries from around the globe. Competition organizer and Fairplex cellar master Mary Ellen Cole says it is always exciting to see the diversity of entries, which countries are growing what grapes, producing which wines.
Beginning in April, entries from one end of the map to the other have come pouring in – Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, Argentina, France, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Spain, South Africa and Canada. Our distinguished panel of judges also reflects the international scope of the competition. Their credentials are beyond compare, with experts like Marc Luton, enologist of Bordeaux, and Amy Leigh Hopkinson, originally from New Zealand based now in Spain as winemaker for Vinas del Cenit in Tierra del Vino Zamora.
The wines submitted, and the judges who offer their palates, truly capture the domestic and international ambiance that has become synonymous with the competition.
