The tale of the modern drink is one of innovation, imagination and an ability to create crafty monikers for your concoctions. It’s not just “bartending” any more. It’s a whole new game in the world of distilled liquor, a world where sophistication and casual fun intersect. A world in which the cocktail hour is where love ignites, where titans of business seal million-dollar deals, where friendships are cemented in an offhand joke. And behind all the magic, are the clever artisans who blend a little science and a little inspiration to fashion tomorrow’s taste sensations.
A top mixologist will showcase their most creative endeavors at Wine & Cars Under the Stars, a benefit evening featuring the winners of the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition. The evening is the official unveiling of the medalists of the wine and tequila judging, which was held in May. The event will take place Saturday, June 16, from 6-11 p.m. at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum at Fairplex. Tickets for the event are $100 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. Host packages are available starting at $500. This unique fundraising event, which benefits the educational programming for the foundations at Fairplex, brings together the winners amidst an impressive collection of one-of-a-kind automobiles and hot rods. Entertainment includes hob-nobbing with celebrities, dancing on Thunder Alley and the nostalgic fun of enjoying a “drive-in” movie.
Recognizing the popularity of distilled liquor in consumers’ discriminating tastes, the Los Angeles International Wine competition added spirits to its judging for the first time this year. Spirits competition chairwoman Rebecca Chapa said tequila as a spirit category is experiencing tremendous growth. “Once the dreaded spirit of raucous parties, tequila has since grown up. Consumers are beginning to appreciate the aging distinctions and now understand that tequila has a place in cocktails including but not limited to margaritas as well as for sipping.”
Like spirits fashionistas, mixologists are deeply involved in the skill of preparing mixed drinks. At Wine & Cars, tequila mixologists will prepare the best tequilas in the world with an assortment of ingredients, designing some of the smoothest drinks around.
Don’t miss this tremendous opportunity to “mix it up” with some of the finest spirits masters around.
